Boasting the best beach on Malta, Mellieha Bay is located on the northern tip of the island offering panoramic views over the island.
Relaxed and laid back, Mellieha Bay attracts many visitors during the day to its lovely beach, but at night, life centres on the hotels or one of the many restaurants in the town. A Baroque church stands proudly in the village’s centre, surrounded by both modern and historic buildings. Beautiful beaches abound and Għadira Bay is the largest family friendly sandy beach on the island with sloping, shallow waters that are perfect for little ones, whilst Golden Bay is a great place to see the sun go down. Marfa offers wonderful hotels and is an easy way to visit Gozo and Comino, with ferries departing from nearby Ċirkewwa.
Mellieha not only offers natural wonders, such as the Ghadira Nature Reserve, but is also steeped in history and culture. Discover the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa, a historic pilgrimage site dating back to the 16th century. The annual Mellieħa Nights festival in August features live music, food stalls, and artisan crafts.
Some standout hotels in the area include the fabulous db Seabank Resort + Spa, which offers all-inclusive packages, or opt for the charming Radisson Blu Resort & Spa in nearby Golden Bay.
Fun fact: Mellieha served as a film set for the 1980 Popeye film and it has now been turned into an amusement park unlike any other, with pools, boat trips and entertainment for the whole family.
